Something for everyone.

We always welcome new volunteers to our agency and our programs. Some volunteers have been volunteering with us regularly every week since 1989, while others may volunteer at one or two fund raising events per year. We do our best to accommodate your interests, skills and schedule. Our volunteer jobs are described below:

Doug’s House Hospice

Caregivers help residents with their daily non-medical needs. Volunteers provide companionship to residents as well as fulfill direct caregiver tasks such as helping residents bathe or assisting with personal care. Volunteers can also cook for the house, maintain the cleanliness of the house, decorate for holidays or do landscaping at Doug’s House. For more on Doug’s House volunteering, see our Idealist posting here.

Top Drawer Thrift Store

General Volunteers sort and price donations, merchandise the store and window displays, provide customer service, run store departments, help plan and market store events and maintain store cleanliness.

Pick-Up Volunteers assemble a crew of friends, co-workers or church groups and bring larger furniture to the store from donors’ houses. Great for volunteers with trucks or SUVs. For more on Top Drawer Thrift volunteering, see our Idealist posting here.

Roosevelt Gardens Housing

Supper Club Volunteers gather a group of friends or co-workers and cook regular (typically weekly) meals for the residents of Roosevelt Gardens. A kitchen is available in our community center.

Programming Volunteers help run events and classes for the Roosevelt Gardens community. Volunteers have run: bingo nights, exercise club, movie nights, community gardening, sports nights, book clubs, cooking classes and parenting orientations. For more on volunteering with our housing program, see our Idealist posting here.

Administrative Office

Bulk mail volunteers process mailings, as needed, in a fun, group atmosphere.

General Administrative Volunteers assist with data entry, pre-event planning, and special projects.

Project Transitions Events

Steering Committee members help plan, organize and direct events. They also solicit cash sponsors and auction donors for our major annual events.

Event volunteers make the event possible on the the day of the event. This includes greeters, bussers, decorators, servers, silent auction support, TABC-certified bartenders, set-up and tear down volunteers.

Special Projects

We always welcome groups, whether a group of co-workers or a student organization to come help out on a special project. We are happy to accommodate your group to help with painting, gardening, fence repair, or other larger tasks. Just let us know what you are interested in…

Thank you for Red Hot 2010!

Thank you for joining us on Friday, July 16th, 2010 for the 19th Annual Red Hot fundraiser at Oilcan Harry’s!
It was a tremendous evening full of incredible live entertainment, champagne, signature Red Hot cocktails, VIP tables, a stocked silent auction, a wild live auction, dancing, and delicious food provided by local restaurants.
We want to thank: the thirty volunteers who helped staff the event; Larry Davis, Rob Faubion, and Steve Higginbotham for their consistent hard work and support; all the talented performers; the entire staff of OCH for their generosity; and the hundreds of attendees throughout the night who made the event a blast!

Join us next year for the rowdy 20th Anniversary of Red Hot!

Top Drawer Celebrates 17 Years in Style

Our dear sweet child (who helps support us!), Top Drawer Thrift, turned seventeen this year.
For seventeen years, Top Drawer Thrift has helped Project Transitions provide compassionate hospice care and housing for people living with HIV/AIDS in Central Texas. To celebrate the thrift store’s seventeenth anniversary we hosted a party of epic proportions at the store on Saturday, August 14th. Partygoers won raffle items from Massage Envy, Waterloo Records, the Alamo Drafthouse Remedy and Nom Nom Global. Nom Nom Global and Jane King provided delicious food and cupcakes. Additionally, we want to thank Ambiente Wine Importing Co. and North by Northeast Brewery for their donations.
