VOLUNTEER PROJECTS (AVAILABLE NOW)

Event: United Court of Austin Coronation

The United Court of Austin is having their live and in person Coronation XXVII on August 12-15 and we need your help! The United Court of Austin is an inclusive world of drag, leather & lace, for gear and leather boys, cross dressing, gays, lesbians, non-binary, bisexuals, and all the in-between to support causes like Project Transitions. We need volunteers on August 13 and 14 from 5 to 9 pm each evening.

In-Person Opportunities

All in-person volunteer opportunities will follow CDC guidelines. Masks are required.

Pharmacist

Doug's House needs a licensed pharmacist to review medication on location on a monthly basis. This is a great opportunity for one pharmacist monthly or a rotation of pharmacists who can come on a periodic basis. This is an in-person volunteer opportunity.

Gardening/Landscaping

Gardeners and landscapers are needed at our facilities to keep them an inviting place for our residents. Apply on your own or with a group! This is an in-person volunteer opportunity on an as-needed basis and may occur on weekdays or weekends.

Photography and Videography

This opportunity is on an as-needed basis for things like groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, story-telling, fundraisers, or other similar events. This is an in-person opportunity and may be indoor or outdoor.

Hair Stylists

Our Doug's House residents can't go out to have a hair cut due to COVID-19. We need hair stylists available to come to Doug's House and cut the hair of our residents. Hair stylists would need to wear appropriate PPE and provide a negative COVID-19 test. This is an in-person volunteer opportunity on an as-needed basis.

Group Projects

Project Transitions has in-person group projects available. Contact us for details.

Remote Opportunities

Cooking for our Clients

Our residents at Doug’s House always welcome a home-cooked meal! This is an at-home volunteer opportunity with porch drop-off at Doug’s House. Any day or meal you choose- even dessert! Just coordinate with us! This opportunity can be one-time or recurring.

Corporate Engagement

We are looking for experienced volunteers to help us with development and fundraising tasks such as securing corporate sponsorships and engagement with development / fundraising, coordinating corporate volunteer opportunities, matching gifts, etc. This is an at-home volunteer opportunity, working remotely with the Development Team.

Communications Special Projects

We are looking for experienced volunteers to help us with Public Relations tasks such as press releases, planning publicity strategies, implementing a monthly giving program, ongoing social media and email promotions, and promoting fundraising events like HCRA, April Showers, Amplify Austin, Giving Tuesday, etc. This is an at-home volunteer opportunity, working remotely with the Development Team.

Fundraising Committee

We are looking for people passionate about Project Transitions to join our Fundraising Committee. Members of the fundraising committee are expected to attend 6 meetings per year (all virtual at the moment) and would participate in strategic planning and vision casting for our fundraising campaigns, as well as use their talents to fundraise.

POST-COVID VOLUNTEER PROJECTS (CURRENTLY ON-HOLD)

We always welcome new volunteers to our agency and our programs. Some volunteers have been volunteering with us regularly since 1989, while others may volunteer at one or two fundraising events per year. We do our best to accommodate your interests, skills and schedule. Volunteers can help with many things at Project Transitions:

Translation Services: We have tenants from all walks of life and have a need for people who can translate for us in American Sign Language, Spanish, Vietnamese, Hindu and other languages as our population evolves. We can use help ranging from translating forms to interpreting during meetings with clients.

DOUG’S HOUSE HOSPICE

Volunteers can also cook for the house, maintain the cleanliness of the house, decorate for holidays or do landscaping at Doug’s House.

TOP DRAWER THRIFT STORE

General Volunteers sort and price donations, merchandise the store and window displays, provide customer service, run store departments, help plan and market store events and maintain store cleanliness.

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

Programming Volunteers help run events and classes for the Roosevelt Gardens community. Volunteers have run: bingo nights, exercise club, movie nights, community gardening, sports nights, book clubs, cooking classes and parenting orientations.

Community Center Keepers are needed to help on a flexible basis to keep the community center running smoothly. Tasks might include basic clean-up, organizing the food pantry, dividing up bulk food donations and decorating for the holidays.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

We always welcome groups, whether a group of co-workers or a student organization to come help out on a special project. We are happy to accommodate your group to help with painting, gardening, fence repair, or other larger tasks. Just let us know what you are interested in.
